Polar Vortex

I have been trying not to mention the weather here in my posts.  We all know it is warmer here than in Saskatoon but I thought I would just mention the goofy weather patterns we have experienced in the last week.

For the last few days it has been cool, highs round 18, with fog most mornings.  Actually the fog usually lasted most of the day and along with the fog there was either a light rain or a very fine mist.   When we watched the Corpus Christi weather forecast at supper time, they would report that the sky had cleared in the later afternoon and the sun came out.  We never experienced any sunshine and we are only about 45 miles away.

The long-term forecast was for a warmup on Saturday and then a drastic cool down.  Well we got the warmup they had promised.  It topped out at 28 degrees, 50 degrees warmer than Saskatoon.  It was a little windy but the sun was out.  It was a wonderful day.  We were now waiting to see if the forecast would be correct.  Well while watching TV in the evening there were FROST warning scrolling across the bottom of the screen.  Frost warnings, and we were contemplating putting the air conditioner on to cool off the RV.

Overnight, as predicted, the wind picked up and the temperature dropped.  We woke up this morning and it was a whoppin’ 8 degrees.  The two electric heaters we have, that hadn’t been on in a couple of nights were quickly switched on along with the furnace to get the chill off.  The RV quickly warmed up, but it is still 8 degrees outside and that is going to be the high for the day.

They are calling for a slow warm-up next week.  We are moving south on Tuesday. I don’t think I will have to scrape the frost off the windows and the sun is supposed to shine.  Goofy weather indeed.

One-day last week we were down at the lake.  There is a large pier in the park that people fish from.  We went out on the pier and I took a couple of panorama pictures.  You should be able to click on them to get a larger view.  The files are quite large so they may take a while to load.  As you can see from the pictures the water front is quite nice with numerous picnic shelters.  You can also see the boat ramp and if you look close you might be able to see our truck.  The park is located on one of the lake’s bays and the panorama shots show one side of the bay and then the other.  You will also notice that is overcast and gloomy.
