That’s right folks, Triple D’s. If you have watched the Food Network you know I am referring to the series Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives hosted by Guy Fieri. Bev likes this show and remembered seeing one when they were in Kansas City, so we thought we would take the day and travel back into town and check it out.
Peculiar is only about 30 miles south of Kansas City so it was a quick drive into town. With the GPS set to the restaurant it was easy to find as well. I don’t know how you would discover this place without help as it is situated between a light industrial area and a residential neighbourhood.
The place we were visiting is B.B.’s Lawn Side Bar B-Q. If you are interested in seeing a clip from the show you can click on over to it here. This is someplace we would definitely go back to. The food was excellent and they have local Blues and Jazz bands playing every day except Monday.
I had the “Burned Ends” meal and Bev had the “Rib Platter”. These plates consist of smoked pulled pork, smoked pork long ribs, battered potato wedges, sweet baked beans, homemade coleslaw and sliced dill pickles. You can see how these are made in the video clip.
We walked away full, or should I say we rolled out the door.
Before heading back to our campsite we travelled downtown. We had heard from the RV manager that the “Plaza” would be an interesting spot to visit, so we did. Again the GPS showed us the way but instead of heading the fastest route (on the interstate) we took the shorter route (through the neighbourhoods). It was interesting to see very affluent areas beside run down sections of town. Kansas City is built around rolling hills so there are a lot of ups and downs but also some beautiful parks along the edges of these hills.
The Plaza was interesting, even though we didn’t stop. If you are a shopper, this would be a stop you should make. The Plaza consists of multiple, multi story buildings full of shops. These buildings surround an open area that is filled with places to sit and many water features. If there was a place for us to park we probably would have sat a spell.
When we got back to the camper it was around supper time, but we were no where close to being hungry. The rest of the evening was spent putting things away for tomorrow’s departure. We also checked on-line for our next stop. We will make our reservations tomorrow morning before we leave. We are hoping to get to Little Rock, but tomorrow will tell.
