For the last few days the weather has not been very good. We have seen rain and wind. Parts of Texas also saw freezing rain and sleet. We are used to this weather back home but here in Texas it’s a big deal and almost brings the cities to a halt. There are a lot of bridges and overpasses in Corpus Christi and these tend to freeze up first, we all know that and we slow down. I guess that’s not what happens here. That being said and the fact that we are travelling up to 75 MPH on the expressways, we have seen very few (actually only one) car accident. There are no blasting horns or road rage. The traffic flows and it flows smoothly.
Well, because of the weather, we haven’t done much over the last few days. Spend most of the time in the RV park with the odd trip over to the supermarket to pick up a few groceries. We also spent some time over at an RV dealership that sells the same trailer as we have. We are having trouble figuring out how to work the ceiling exhaust fans. It’s not like we needed to use them because of the cool weather but when it gets warmer, they will come in handy. It turns out I was doing everything right and the tech at the dealership figures the remotes are faulty. One more thing to put on the list for when we get back.
Thursday we had an enjoyable visit with some extended family. It turns out that Bev’s brother-in-law Grant, who lives in Brandon Manitoba has a sister that lives in Port Lavaca Texas. Port Lavaca is approximately 100 miles north of Corpus Christi. Through a few emails, it turned out that we were able to have coffee with Grant’s sister Signy and her husband Terry. They were going to be in town for a meeting so we met later in the afternoon for a visit. Not knowing were to have a coffee, we ended up at a Barnes and Noble book store. Bev and I had been there a few days earlier and had coffee and pastry at the Starbucks in the store. It was very enjoyable and the time seemed to wiz by.
Today was really nice, it topped out at 78℉. The sun was shining but the wind was also blowing. So one minute the sun was out and a few minutes later it was totally overcast only to turn sunny again minutes later. Because we knew it was going to be nice, we decided to take another trip over to the island. We spend some time on the beach and toured around Port Aransas and Aransas Pass. Tomorrow I thing we will head on back to Padre Island National Seashore. We are going to pull up stakes and move on Monday and if the beach here will allow us to turn around, we will probably drag the trailer over to the beach and spend a few days on the sand and in the surf. We will have to wait and see though.
